Diversify Your Network and Expand Your Understanding of the World
Dimension constructs in the order they are described in the book:
Approachability, Suspending Judgment, Inclusiveness, Curiosity, and Diversity of Thought
DISCOVERING (2.71 – 3.59)
As you continue to discover more about your leadership tendencies, you are strongly encouraged to surround yourself with people, media, and ideas that offer you alternative perspectives. Consider new ways you can be more inclusive in your day-to-day activities. Additionally, try monitoring the judgments and labels you inevitably use to classify people. Challenge your initial assumptions and stay curious about the stories people of all walks of life can tell.
DEVELOPING (3.60 – 3.94)
At times you likely enjoy working with a diverse group of people that challenge your assumptions. However, at other times you prefer to surround yourself with like-minded people who share the same political, religious, or social views you do. You are likely aware of the times you catch yourself labeling others and try your best to give new acquaintances the benefit of the doubt, yet you know you still have room for improvement in this area. You are encouraged to stay curious about topics that you are both knowledgeable and naive about. Continue to monitor how you use labels, and identify opportunities to immerse yourself with “people from the other side.”
DEMONSTRATING (3.95 – 4.82)
You excel at surrounding yourself with diverse people and ideas. Your ongoing curiosity and abilities to recognize and refrain from using labels enhance the relationships and knowledge you acquire in your life. As you continue to develop as a leader, make a conscious effort to show others the inherent value Attracting Diverse Anglers can have on their development. Observe and provide positive feedback when you see others proactively get out of their comfort zones. Encourage future leaders to become more open-minded as they explore their own thoughts and relationships.
